Review the Final Project Guidelines and Rubric PDF. This week you are selecting a research problem in a clinical area of healthcare that you will be addressing throughout the short papers and with your Final Project. You will want to place this research problem in the form of a question. For example, a research question could be “What is the impact of healthy lifestyles on decreasing childhood obesity in the Hispanic population?” After reviewing the Final Project Guidelines and Rubric document, submit your research question. Post any questions to the General Questions topic.

Orientation to Module One and the course. Welcome to the course! I am looking forward to getting to know you! Please view this on the course webpage in order to see the visuals, https://learn.snhu.edu/d2l/le/news/965074/4210697/view Further guidance on assignment 1.2 – topic selection is given in this announcement https://learn.snhu.edu/d2l/le/news/965074/4213213/view Healthcare administrators, managers, and executives are responsible for planning, directing, and coordinating health services at various levels for the populations they serve. Interpreting research is integral to the role of a healthcare professional, especially when conducting a needs assessment for program planning.  This is an intensive course, so it is important to contact me via email, if you need clarification and directions.  I am an advocate for your learning! In this course, you will choose a clinical area of a proposed intervention using an aim statement related to healthcare administration and create an annotated bibliography. For your final assessment, you will compose an integrated review. In this review, you will discuss the criteria necessary for inclusion or exclusion of six research studies articles that were published in refereed journals, critique the quality of each study, and present a synthesis of the results. An intervention is an action taken to improve a healthcare situation, especially a medical disorder.  You, acting in the healthcare administrator role, will need to determine if this intervention is valid for a program using evidence-based decision making. This is an exciting project! After reviewing the attached Final Project Guidelines and Rubric, submit a clinical topic of a proposed intervention, refer to an aim statement with a PICO which is a foreground research question, also refer to as a guiding research question or searchable research question for your integrative review. The table below compares the foreground question to the background question. In the past, you have written academic papers where you demonstrated your general, basis knowledge on a subject.  Those questions are  background type, broad based and usually starting with “what or when” to inquire on general information.  You will not be using a background question as a future healthcare administrator. An example of a background research question for your topic is “What is the impact of healthy lifestyles on decreasing childhood obesity in the Hispanic population?” In this course, you will be applying evidence-based decision making by taking it a step further with a clinical topic foreground question on an intervention which stressed a “how” and compares clinical modalities/interventions using the PICO foreground research question format.  The well-built clinical question is an INTERVENTION COMPARISONS to guide an Integrative Review  in this format Population-Intervention-Comparison-Outcome   In ____________________ (P), how does ____________________ (I) compared to   ____________________(C) affect _____________________(O)?   These are some PICO examples:  In female adolescents (P), how does a school exercise intervention (I) compared to no school intervention (C) affect obesity levels (O)?  In critical care patients (P), how does albumin resuscitation (I) compared to saline resuscitation (C) affect sepsis (O)?  In low income populations (P), how does access to food vouchers/fresh foods (I), compared to those without access to food vouchers/fresh foods (C) affect their glycemic control (O)?  In registered nurses (P), how non-financial retention interventions (I) compared to monetary interventions (C) affect nurse turnover rates (O)?  The components of a well written PICO: P = Population/patient or individuals with a certain disorder I = Intervention (Variable of Interest) C = Comparison/control  intervention (what is currently in use, if none is use compare to no intervention)  O = Outcome The independent variable (IV) of the PICO is the intervention (I), the control variable (CV) is the comparison intervention or no intervention, the C of the PICO and the dependent variable (DV) is the outcome of interest (O) of the PICO. These variables guide the searches for research studies for your integrative review. I want to stress again, an intervention is an action taken to improve a healthcare situation, especially a medical disorder.   These are “Aim Statements” examples for your topic: The aim is to conduct an integrated review and synthesize six high level of evidence (LOE) research studies of the effectiveness of non-financial retention interventions for Registered Nurses at XXX hospital. The aim is to conduct an integrative review and synthesize six high level of evidence (LOE) research studies of fresh food interventions in low income diabetics to validate the success of the program on glycemic control at XXXX hospital. The aim of this integrative review is to conduct a review of the literature using a systematic approach for current research and synthesize six high level of evidence (LOE) research studies of albumin resuscitation compared to saline resuscitation in critical care patients with sepsis to validate a program Critical Care Center for Patient Innovation at XXX Hospital. For more information view this video PICO: A Model for Evidence Based Research https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0bGJoN2NHc8 Your writing will be in the objective, scientific style and using the APA style manual.  I will be sharing documents, templates, and videos throughout to assist you in understanding this complex subject. Read my announcements! As you move forward in conducting your integrative review as a healthcare administrator, you have complete these evidence-based medicine (EBM) key steps. Construct a PICO as the guiding research question to search for quantitative research with high level of evidence(LOE) in healthcare evidence-based databases for an intervention proposal validation. P I C O Patient, Population Intervention  Comparison  Outcome Characteristics of patient or population (e.g. older adult, adult, adolescent, child, disease/condition) Intervention (e.g. dietary, exercise, psychological, medication, diagnostic, screening intervention) Alternative intervention (e.g. standard intervention, no intervention) What is the measure? Write in a foreground research question which is searchable in evidence- based databases, “In XXX (P), how does XXX intervention (I) as compared to XXX intervention (C) affect XXX (O)?” You need to submit your research topic, use one of these approved PICOs for your research topic:  In older adults (P), how does exercise interventions (I)as compared to no exercise interventions (C)affect their fall rates(O)? In female adolescents (P), how does a school exercise intervention (I) compared to no school intervention (C) affect obesity levels (O)? Write an aim statement from the viewpoint of a healthcare administrator searching for a clinical  intervention to validate a program. Aim statement need to use this format, The aim of this integrative review is to conduct a review of the literature using a systematic approach for current research and synthesize six high level of evidence (LOE) research studies on ____________________ interventions compared to no __________interventions for ___________ to validate _________________program for ___________. You can make up a hospital, health facility etc. In Module One, you will: Review the Module One Lecture Compete the Module One reading and review the resources Participate in the “Opportunities for Change Discussion” discussion and respond to at least two of your peers. Please sign your name and location to help create an inclusive environment. Your initial post must be made by Thursday, January 6, 2022, 11:59 p.m. EST and last post by Sunday, January 9, 2022, 11:59 p.m., EST Submit a CLINIC proposed intervention as your TOPIC using an AIM STATEMENT for the Final Project. There is a list of approved PICOs above, please select one. The topic submission is a non-graded but a mandatory activity. Your research interest may change after you review the literature so do not worry! In this course, you will write objectively in scientific form (with no personal language such primary pronouns) using the APA style manual, I also recommend obtaining a coach from the writing center to assist you with developing this research based writing skill, if this is new to you. Read chapter three in your Publication Manual of the APA and also attached, “Writing Tips for Healthcare Professionals”. “Write objectively, not subjectively” Some general rules regarding objective writing, “Avoid starting sentences with “I” or “we”: this pulls focus away from the scientific topic at hand. Avoid using “I” or “we” when you’re making a conjecture, whether it’s substantiated or not. Everything you say should follow from logic, not from personal bias or subjectivity. Never use any emotive words in conjunction with “I” or “we” (e.g., “I believe,” “we feel,” etc.). Never use “we” in a way that includes the reader (e.g., “here we see trait evolution in action”); the use of “we” in this context sets a condescending tone.” Read more about this at this source: https://writingcenter.unc.edu/tips-and-tools/sciences/ “Move information around in the sentence to emphasize things and ideas, instead of people and feelings. For example, instead of writing “I believe the model is valid, based on these findings”, write “These findings indicate that the model is valid” or “The following section will show how the model is validated by the findings”. Source: http://sydney.edu.au/stuserv/learning_centre/help/styleStructure/st_objectiveView.shtml Moreover, DO NOT use contractions in the APA style — example of contractions — “I’ve, don’t, ‘won’t, couldn’t”. This course all moves toward writing that final project, an integrative review. Again, welcome to the course!
